One of the first masjids in Bolton.
The name Taiyabah — from the Arabic Tayyab, meaning purity — was given by the late Hazrat Sheikh Moulana Mohammed Zakariyya Saheb, author of Fazaail-e-Amaal.
The masjid was originally located in Canning Street, where Moulana Faruq Desai was appointed as its first Imam.
In February 1988, to accommodate the growing community, the present building on Blackburn Road was purchased — formerly a Congregational Sunday School. The first Imam in the new masjid was Qari Yakub Nanjee Saheb, followed by Qari Farook Saheb.
Plans are in the works to give the community a safe and welcoming space for learning, socialising and conducting ceremonies — and an educational resource for young and old alike.
The masjid also intends to invest further in Islamic education, supporting the community in matters including marriage and burial practices, and to establish an Islamic educational and cultural centre and library.

Zakat is a share of your savings given each year to those in need. It is 2.5% — £2.50 out of every £100 you have kept for a whole year.
You pay it if all of these are true:
Pick the same date each Islamic year — many choose a day in Ramadan — and work out your zakat on that day every year.
Nisab is the minimum you must own before zakat is due. It is fixed in gold and silver, so its value in pounds changes with the metal price.
The Hanafi school uses the silver nisab, which is lower — so more people qualify to give.
Include what you owe right now — bills, rent, money borrowed. For a mortgage, most scholars say to deduct only the payments due, not the whole loan. Ask the imam if you are unsure.
This is a guide, not a ruling. It follows the Hanafi position and uses the price you enter. Zakat can depend on your own circumstances, and scholars differ on things like pensions, shares and long-term debt. For anything you are unsure about, please ask the imam at the masjid.
Please do not call the masjid during Salah times.

“A Muslim who has something to leave behind should not let two nights pass without having his will written and kept ready.”
The Prophet ﷺ · Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim
كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَكُمُ الْمَوْتُ إِنْ تَرَكَ خَيْرًا الْوَصِيَّةُ
“When death approaches one of you, and you leave behind good, it is prescribed that you make a bequest — a duty upon those mindful of Allah.”
Qur’an · Sūrah al-Baqarah, 2:180
When a Muslim passes away without having made their wishes clear, their estate is left to be settled according to the default rules of the country they lived in — which may not reflect Islamic guidance on how a person’s wealth should be distributed.
An Islamic will sets out, in your own words, while you are able to:
Islamic inheritance follows fixed shares (Farā’iḍ) set out in the Qur’an for specific family members. A will does not override these shares, but it lets you address anything the fixed shares do not cover — for example, up to a third of your estate may be left to people or causes outside your Islamic heirs, such as a charitable gift.
Because these calculations depend on your own family circumstances, they are best worked through individually with the imam or a solicitor experienced in Islamic wills — rather than estimated in general terms here.
Some choose to include a charitable bequest in their will as a final, lasting act of Ṣadaqah. If you would like to consider including a gift to Taiyabah Masjid, let the solicitor helping you write your will know, or ask the office about adding a codicil if you already have a will in place.
This page is a starting point, not legal, financial or religious advice for your own circumstances. UK inheritance tax and probate rules are detailed and change over time — please speak to a qualified solicitor to write your will, and to the imam for guidance on the Islamic shares that apply to your family.

Many in the community turn to the masjid for guidance on matters affecting their day-to-day lives. Our imams are able to advise on a range of subjects, including marriage, bereavement, family matters, and general Islamic guidance.
If you would like to arrange a time to speak with one of the imams, please contact the main office to make an appointment.
Appointments are arranged through the office, so the imam can make time to see you properly rather than in passing.

For many couples, an Islamic ceremony carries a significance that a civil registration alone does not provide. Taiyabah Masjid is able to conduct this Nikāḥ on your behalf, in keeping with authentic Islamic practice — both parties giving their free and informed consent, and the groom presenting a dowry (mahr) to the bride as part of the contract.
A Nikāḥ performed at the masjid is not, by itself, a marriage recognised under UK law. We strongly encourage every couple to additionally complete a separate civil marriage — this protects both partners’ legal rights, including around property and inheritance, should the need ever arise.
Requirements such as documentation, witnesses, available dates and any applicable fees vary and are best confirmed directly with the masjid. To discuss your circumstances or arrange a booking, please get in touch.
Specific requirements — documentation, witnesses, timings and any applicable fees — are best discussed directly with the office when you call.
